This is an Image Map. Mouse over each of the states
and look at your status bar at the bottom left of your
browser window. See each of the states has a different
URL web address attached to it. This map of the United
States has been edited so that each state is diagrammed
out and linked to a different url address for each state.
Click on one and go there.

An image map can be used on any
kind of image type, shape or size. Anytime you can click
on a different parts of the same image you're looking
at an image map.
