but remembering everything is hard for someone who is
new at this.
The Do's and Don't Checklist is
a compilation of the suggestions made in the dirtcheapwebsites
tutorials. Use it as a quick reference check-off list
to remember and review some aspects of the more important
decisions you'll be making during the design phase of
your website.
Do's Checklist
1. Develope a Search Engine Optimization
strategy. Know what you competition is doing with SEO.
2. Be compelling. Make sure your
website is interesting.
3. Acknowledge and offer special
promotions to new visitors to your site.
4. Do something that lets your visitors
know they're welcome.
5. Keep your website personal.
6. Use original content.
7. Don't put up a bunch of junk
and hype.
8. Give impulse buyers an opportunity
to become instant customers.
9. Don't create some impersonal
or impenatrable corporate image around yourself.
10. Promote Yourself.
11. Decide what you want. You can
do and be anything you want on the internet. Be a plumber,
a hobbyist or an anonymous artist, a silly clown, a poet,
an internet business or a dogwalker. Anything you want.
It's your website. In fact, have two or three websites
up and be lots of different things. If you don't care
about search engines don't bother with it. Above all,
have fun with your website and enjoy the miracle of the
internet.
12. Understand a little bit about
using web designs like Tables, Frames, Interactivity,
Animations, Images and Flash.
13. Keep your webpages as small
as possible in total file size so the download as fast
as possible to your visitors computer
14. Keep your website simple and
your navigation easy to use.
15. Use original text content of
at least 200 words on each page.
16. Use a few interesting images
on each of your pages and optimize them for file size.
17. Use Javascripts and Animated
Graphics to give life and movement to your web pages.
18. Use Turnkey Templates and Dreamweaver
Templates to layout your website.
Dont's Checklist
1. It's ok to use them but don't
be annoying with Page Tricks like, alerts, flashing text
and pop-ups.
2. Don't use Frameset layout designs.
3. Don't design your whole website
in Flash
4. Don't use so many images on your
webpage that it takes a long time for your pages to download
to your visitors computer.
