Anything you can do to include any of these elements into your website design is guaranteed to improve your chances of success on the Internet.

Alot of websites show up in #1 positions on internet searches because their competion isn't trying. There's no rhyme, nor reason, nor strategy to anybody's site designs. The ones in the top spot are there because they're lucky no one else is trying either. You can knock these people out of first place very easily.

Know more than your competition about what makes a good website and analyze their website designs for strengths and weaknesses. In order to knock your competition out of 1st place you have to know and understand what's keeping them there and where you can do better.

2 Be compelling in your website designs. Do something to catch your visitors eye that will draw them in. Use images and text to create interest in who YOU are.

Acknowledge new visitors to your website. Use this opportunity to offer a  special 'new visitor' promotion or special discount.

4 Do something that lets your visitors know they're welcome and you like them. Invite them to join your mailing list, send you an email or come by and visit your brick and mortar store about your special website offer they saw.

Make your website an extension of your voice. Be gratious and personal like you're welcoming someone one to your
Home (page). Get the connection !

6 Have something genuine and original to say about Yourself and your Product.

Unless your thing is 'Free Speach' or 'individualism', don't waste your visitors time by putting up a website that's full of dull self indulgent hype or, worse yet, does nothing to keep your visitors interest once they've found your website.

8 Give impulse buyers an opportunity to instantly become a customer. Use promotions like 'Gift Certificates' and 'Buy Now' offers and DON'T create inconvienent purchase and check out procedures.

BE REAL. Let your visitors see that you are real people. Don't create some impersonal or impenatrable corporate image around yourself.

10 Don't miss an opportunity to PROMOTE YOURSELF wherever you could be doing it smartly.

 

Everything described in 'The 10 Secrets of Web Design' are common sense approaches to internet marketing. Use this tutorial as both a check-off list to evaluate your website, and as a way to balance out your website ideas so that you don't inadvertantly commit some needlessly offensive mistake.

Your website designer should be learned and knowledgeable about these things and responsable for helping you understand.

If this relationship doesn't exist then you will have to involve an additional web developer to analize and make recommendations about why your website fails to promote you on the internet. Then you'll have to pay your designer or someone else again to change your website.

At this point you'll be throwing good money after bad. From there it won't be long before you start losing interest in your website altogether and abandon it when the smart thing to do would have been to dump the design and start with a design that works.
